Humidity Issues

Why does the Humidity affect my hair so badly?

There can be several reasons for this but the most likely is condition. You must remember that hair is a porous and fibrous body. It is not alive and is actually a waste by-product of the body. This said; look at hair as you would look at wood, porous and fiberous.

Can hair be rebuilt to withstand humidity?

Yes, because hair is porous we can add certain ingredients like protein and moisture to help restructure the hair and tame the porosity. Much like wood once conditioned properly and restructured with proteins, the hair is sealed. Just as water beads up on wood that has been sealed, so humidity does with hair that has been sealed.

Do I have to keep treating my hair?

Yes, as with wood or a car that you wax, you do have to maintain your hair with regular treatments.

Is it a cure-all?

NO! Humidity will still affect you but not nearly as badly. I myself have VERY porous hair and after reconstruction, I find it not nearly as affected. However it does depend on the hair and the level of humidity

Having lived in the tropics most of my life, I am too aware of the humidity issue and how frustrating it can be. I have had great success in battling this issue, with the use of the following products

Vivant's

Foam conditioning mousse ReVITAFOAM - a wonderful new product that softens and repels humidity without excess weight.

Wella's...'High Hair Cream'

a great product used in small amounts especially for long hair

MOP (Modern Organic Product)

This is wonderful yet hard to find; careful not to over
use!
*Medium to short hair, 1 pump will do, for long hair use more than one pump.
*It should be applied to wet or very damp hair.

TIGI.... "Control Freak"    tigihaircare.com

This product comes in two types, Extra and Regular. The regular is good but avoid the Extra as it is drying.
*Apply approx. a quarter size for long hair and half the amount for short.

KMS "Flat Out"

A good product with several additional products that can be used to add even more control.
*Caution: their serums or shine fluids are a bit heavy if over used.

PHYTO "Phytolisse"

An organically-based relaxing balm that I really like. Client feedback is wonderful and it's organic. They also produce the best shine serum I have used, also organic and rinses out with water.

AVEDA... "Hang Straight"   aveda.com

A very good straightening balm; do not over use. It's good at repelling oils and dirt. I would place this as my third choice.

Senscience ' Smooth Gelee'

Excellent value and very stable in high humidity.
